RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF HEAD AND NECK TUMORS

Fadeeva Surgical treatment for locally advanced tumors of the head and neck is a difficult problem, because large defects resulting from tumor removal cannot be closed with local tissues. Synthetic materials (nets, plates, implants) or advancement regional flaps are often used to repair the defects. However, these techniques have certain limitations and disadvantages.

Free flaps witn microvascular anastomosis are a full-value, single-step approach to close muscular and investing tissue defects. Active use of free microsurgical flaps to repair extensive postoperative defects enlarges indications of preservation surgery in locally advanced tumors, improves considerably functional and cosmetic outcomes of treatment.
